The NJ Home Care and Hospice Political Action Committee (NJHCH PAC) supports candidates who are receptive to home care and hospice issues, regardless of their political affiliation.

What is a Political Action Committee (PAC)?

• A political action committee (PAC) is a type of political committee organized to help support candidates who share your views and concerns.
• The origin of PACs date back to the 1940s and are used today by thousands of organizations across the nation and in New Jersey to contribute funds and provide other support to political candidates for office.
• The Home Care & Hospice Association of NJ Board of Directors voted to create a PAC to offer members concerned with the challenges confronting the home care and hospice community the means to support worthy candidates for state elected office.
• The purpose of NJHCH PAC is to support the full scope of home care and hospice providers, including home health agencies, hospices and health care service firms throughout the New Jersey region.
• NJHCH PAC will support by lawful means candidates in New Jersey, regardless of political affiliations, who are dedicated to good government and have an appreciation of the importance of health, home care and hospice providers and the services they offer.

Why Now?

• Government activity at the state level has a direct impact on home care and hospice providers and the entire health care system.
• A strong political action committee is a useful advocacy tool that can help the home and hospice care community have a strong voice in public policy efforts.
• The creation of the NJHCH PAC will help continue the Home Care & Hospice Association of NJ’s strong presence in advocating at the State level for your interests.
• Participation in the NJHCH PAC will help us to communicate that lawmakers must recognize the true costs of caring for patients in their home, invest in a strong and stable home care safety net, and assure that home and hospice care’s place at the table is well represented. We are in uncertain political times and a PAC sends a powerful message of unity on behalf of the home care and hospice community.
• It allows those interested in home and hospice to work collaboratively in emphasizing the importance of home care and hospice programs and the thousands of patients they serve.

How Does a PAC work?

• Contributions to the NJHCH PAC are pooled together to help support lawmakers concerned with preserving and protecting the home care and hospice safety net in New Jersey.
• By collectively pooling our resources, our message can be clearly heard by policymakers in Trenton.
• This collective voice communicates that state reimbursement and private sector payment must recognize the true costs of providing care to home care and hospice patients, and that home care and hospice must be strengthened by providing for resources to address infrastructure, workforce, capital and technology needs. Supporting the NJHCH PAC ensures that home care and hospice providers have a meaningful voice in the outcome on these vital issues that affect the home care and hospice community.
• Interest groups from many disciplines work to have their voice heard; home care and hospice community’s voice also needs to be at the forefront of the debate.

Who Can Contribute to the HCHANJ PAC?

• Voluntary contributions may be accepted from U.S. citizens or individuals who are admitted for permanent residence (holders of a “green card”).
• For-profit corporations may also contribute.
• Partnerships, LLPs, and LLCs may not contribute as entities, but a contribution may be drawn on the account of a partnership, LLP, or LLC and is treated as a personal contribution by the partner or member who signs the check or written interest.
• Contributions from 501(c)(3) organizations cannot be accepted.
• Employees of the Home Care & Hospice Association of NJ’s member organizations can contribute to the NJHCH PAC.
• Participation in the NJHCH PAC is voluntary and contributions are not tax-deductible.

Does it Make a Difference?

• Your participation in the NJHCH PAC produces real political power.
• Protecting home care and hospice providers and the patients and families we serve cannot be done without commitment.
• When you and your home care and hospice colleagues contribute to the NJHCH PAC it reinforces and reminds lawmakers of the importance of these services in NJ.
• Any contribution amount is welcome, subject to campaign-finance limits.
• If each Home Care & Hospice Association of NJ provider agency and its employees contributes, the NJHCH PAC would be hugely successful.
• Every contribution is meaningful, needed and very much appreciated. Under New Jersey campaign-finance law, an individual may contribute up to $7,200 per year to the NJHCH PAC.
• A corporation may contribute up to $7,200 per year to the NJHCH PAC.

NJHCH PAC is a voluntary, non-profit entity formed solely for political purposes. NJHCH PAC is not affiliated with any political party, candidate, or organization. The cost of organization, administration and solicitation of contributions for NJHCH PAC is borne entirely by NJHCH PAC and the Home Care & Hospice Association of New Jersey. Copies of NJHCH PAC reports are filed with the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission.
