Be Ready! for a Power Outage 🪫

An HCHANJ Tabletop Exercise Event

Power outages pose significant risks to electricity-dependent patients receiving care at home. This event provides a safe environment for home care agencies, home-based care providers, non-skilled providers, coalition members, emergency preparedness leads, and operations and clinical leadership to test plans, uncover gaps, and strengthen preparedness—before an actual emergency occurs.

This structured, discussion-based simulation will guide participants through a realistic and evolving power outage scenario affecting home-based care delivery.

  • Walk through emergency response actions during a widespread power outage
  • Test existing emergency, continuity, and communication plans
  • Identify vulnerabilities in:
    • Backup systems
    • Communication protocols
    • Resource management
  • Coordinate response strategies across agencies
  • Strengthen collaboration with partners and coalition members
After the session, participants will receive a comprehensive situation manual and an After Action Report identifying participating agencies, strengths identified, and opportunities for improvement.

The tabletop exercise will be led by Barbara B. Citarella, RN, BSN, MS, CHCE, NHDP-BC (Subject Matter Expert to ASPR TRACIE and President, RBC Limited Healthcare & Management Consultants).
